distance + learning
A LIVING DOCUMENT
Our community has just been forced into a new means of education. Thankfully, in today's day and age, we have the technology to support the only means of education at this time. Although this form has existed for a while, it has now become a common household concept, distance learning.
Distance learning is also referred to as distance education, e-learning, and online learning as a form of education in which the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction using various technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication.
It is time for us to come together as a community and utilize our best skills to help one another. We at empowerED are here to help families with the social, emotional and educational concerns regarding the progress of your child's educational needs.
Thanks to colleagues and professionals all across the country, empowerED is curating an extensive list of various educational resources, helpful distance learning tools, including games + activities interesting history, science and cultural learning opportunities. Before diving into the linked goodies, create (with your child if they need help) their own personal office where office where they have easy access to helpful distant learning supplies. Eliminating the need to get up and becoming distracted. We are all aware of the importance of keeping up with a school's distance learning curriculum we also know the importance of living a balanced life. How do we fit it all in? Create a daily schedule include not just academics and exercise be sure to include arts + drawing, crafts to exercise the creative half of our brains. Virtual field trips to museums, zoos and historical locations are wonderful activities to schedule and to break up the monotony. It is also important to include virtual playdates/hangouts, chore time, family time etc etc etc. Although our goal is to keep screen time limited, sometimes, when you feel like pulling out your hair, a little screen time is necessary. The key to this is choosing the right learning apps. We have also included some useful videos + articles to check out while the kids are peacefully and cooperatively playing with one another (a mom can only dream). There are ways to feel good when dark clouds loom, pay it forward like we did, check it out. Because empowerED believes in a holistic approach to wellbeing, a carefully vetted list of respected mental health providers are included. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Parents are facing a brand new set of stressors these days; homeschooling, keeping peace in the house with multiple people under one roof for who knows how long, keeping kids occupied with activities other than a screen, with an overall sense of calm and cooperation #teamwork
We encourage the exploration of these useful tools. Please note this is a living document and will be updated as pertinent information comes in and if you feel something should be shared, send a message.
